European Railway Agency (ERA)

Getronics instrumental in making the right infrastructure choices

The European Railway Agency is the driving force behind the modernisation of the European railway industry. It was officially established in 2004 and became fully operational in 2006. Mutually incompatible national technical regulations and safety rules in the 27 Member States have always been a major handicap for interoperability. The Agency's key mission is to gradually align technical regulations and establish common safety objectives which all of Europe's railways must comply with.

Challenge

Develop a document framework to facilitate the creation of a trans-European competitive railway system that allows for the safe and uninterrupted movement of trains throughout the European Union.

Solution

Getronics assisted ERA in developing a roadmap for an all-encompassing document management system required for drafting infrastructure and safety standards to be implemented by each and every railway company in Europe.

Benefits

  • A flying implementation start with the first system up and running in barely three month's time
  • The entire support burden for the large group of external users rests with Getronics running a 24 x 7 help desk
  • Migration to the new Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 stack went very smoothly
  • Project was well received by the European Commission
  • ERA won in June 2007 a CIO 100 award from CIO Magazin (USA) for its document management and collaboration space project
